The first project to be located on the new South Campus, the Clinical Research Facility set the standards for building massing, elevation design, and finishes for the entire biotechnology park. The four story prototype is a research building designed to accommodate select users from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's primary tenants, plus tenants from the private sector conducting related research activities. Therefore, the lab space had to be flexible and easily partitioned for multiple tenants. The lab benches are mobile and can be detached from the overhead utility umbilical and rolled to an adjacent lab for reconnection. All supporting functions associated with the shell space have the functional ability to be adaptive to an established lab function. The scope of work also included a 474-space precast concrete parking garage. This project was delivered with the Design/Build approach and yielded considerable cost and schedule savings when compared to lab buildings executed with the traditional method. ![]() |
